Whats The Eve Appeal?
“The Eve Appeal is the only UK national charity raising awareness and funding research into the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal.”eveappeal.org.uk
*the below information has been taken and slightly adapted from eveappeal.org.uk
The Eve Appeal were set up to save women’s lives by funding ground-breaking research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection and developing screening for these women-only cancers.
The The Eve Appeal’s vision is simple: A future where fewer women develop and more women survive gynaecological cancers.
The Eve Appeal was founded by Professor Ian Jacobs, who was horrified by the low survival rates of women with advanced ovarian cancer, and began to search for a way of screening women for ovarian cancer.
Although their original focus began with ovarian cancer, a disease that has a high mortality rate because it is so often diagnosed too late, the research they fund aims to improve early detection, risk-prediction and prevention of all five gynaecological cancers.
The Eve Appeal was launched in 2002 and is the only national UK charity dedicated to funding world-class research and raising awareness of all five gynaecological cancers (womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal).
In the UK, 58 women are diagnosed and 21 die each and every day from a gynaecological cancer – yet funding and awareness of these diseases remains low. The Eve Appeal are determined to change this and fight women’s cancers by funding research focused on developing effective methods of risk prediction, earlier detection, and improved treatment and care that will ultimately save women’s lives not only in the UK but around the world.
The charity have several celebrity supporters such as Sinitta, Claudia Winkleman and even Made in Chelsea star, Tiffany Watson!
If that isn’t enough for you then here are the charities own ’10 reasons to support The Eve Appeal’
“Every day in the UK 58 women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer and 21 will die, The Eve Appeal are determined to change this for the future of women everywhere
We are the only national charity on a mission to raise awareness and funds to protect women from these cancers
Our research has already achieved major breakthroughs towards improving survival rates of women with gynaecological cancers through pioneering research into screening, early diagnosis and risk prediction.
With our scientists and medics, we are united in the vision to significantly reduce the current 40% mortality rate from gynaecological cancers and save more women’s lives
Despite the current statistic that 40% of women diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer will not survive, gynae cancer research – and specifically funding in our focus on early detection and prevention – is woefully underfunded
Awareness of gynaecological cancers is very low and many women do not even know there are five gynaecological cancers: womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval, and vaginal
People are often too embarrassed to discuss gynaecological cancers or the signs and symptoms. As a result, in recent years there has been a rise in the number of younger women being diagnosed with gynaecological cancer and these cancers can affect women of any age. Helping us to raise awareness will change this and help save women’s lives
Our research funding supports innovative and cutting edge projects where conventional research funding is harder to find.
Although we are a small charity our contribution is disproportionately large as we fund innovative new research and cover gaps in funding which allows projects to maintain momentum.
Our research is world-class and highly collaborative. We fund research at University College London, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Southern California and Harvard Medical School and at 9 leading European institutions. One of our programmes is a recipient of prestigious EC Horizon2020 funding for research and innovation and we couldn’t have done that without your support.”
Whats in the box?
So let’s talk about the actual box shall we?
What do you get inside? Well you get a total of 15 products, 10 of which are full size! The overall value of the box is over £85, but you only pay £25! Not to mention, as I said earlier, 10% of that is going straight to the charity!
Some of the items included which im most excited about are the Elemis Ultra-Conditioning Lip Balm, the Ciate Glow-To Highlighter – Moondust (which although isn’t full size is a very generous sample size!) and the Smashbox Always On Metallic Matte in the shade Maneater.
The box has a tone of different lip, hair and body products in, but what stood out to me the most was the more unusual items included.
As well as beauty products the box includes some women health items such as tampons and condoms. Not the typical things you’d expect to find in a beauty box but when you think about what the charity is all about, it makes sense.
One of the items I was particularly interested in was the tampons from OHNE. I am terrible for remembering to have mine stocked up and always run out mid period (which is very annoying). What I liked about OHNE was that you can order them to arrive in boxes of 8, 12, 16, 20 or 24 and as frequently or in-frequently as you need them! You can even choose if you want applicator or naked. Its definitely something im going to be signing up to and lucky for me there was a cheeky offer inside the Latest in Beauty box to get my first box FREE!
Of course, if you’re a guy the tampons probably won’t be much use to you. But I’m sure you have a friend, sister or even mother who would be grateful for some extras.
This box has a ton of great items in it, its really well priced AND 10% of proceeds go to charity!
This is a way you can treat yourself and feel good about doing it. Not only will you get some goodies to enjoy but there are a couple of great women health brands in there to discover as well.
Head over to Latest in Beauty now to grab one for yourself!
Until next time…
